About Cowes

Situated on the Isle of Wight, Cowes is renowned for sailing and is home to the Royal Yacht Squadron.

Cowes is the main port on the Isle of Wight, with its natural harbour situated at the mouth of the River Medina which also divides the town into East Cowes and West Cowes.

Cowes has a long nautical tradition dating back to the Tudor times of Henry VIII. The port has continued its long association with royalty, and Osbourne House, the seaside residence of Queen Victoria, is located nearby.

The narrow streets of Cowes provide ample opportunities for quality shopping, eating and relaxing, with a wide range of café’s and restaurants.

The port also plays host to Skandia Cowes Week each August, the most famous sailing and yachting regatta in the world. Cowes comes alive during the regatta week, with a range of live events and attractions.
